SEASON 1 PART 9

Friday evening.

Malachi is in Physical Education and he notices that everyone is dressed out today.  “Damn it!” he said. He sat down as the coach was taking roll when the coach advised him that he would need to see him afterwards. The coach was a relatively young guy in his last 20s and he informed Malachi that to ensure a passing grade he would need to have his uniform when he got to class. “Yes sir, I won’t forget it Monday.” Malachi went back and sat down, knowing that he had his uniform in his bag Monday, he just did not want to hassle of getting undressed in front of a bunch of people that he didn’t know.  At least he wouldn’t be required to shower due to this being his last class. The bell rang shortly after attendance and fire drill policies were discussed.  He headed out the front doors meeting up with is sister.

“So are we still going see a movie tonight?”  she asked.

Malachi assumed so “As far as I know….“

Quincy and QJ were already waiting in the truck across the street. Aundrea then asked if it was okay for them to go see a movie.

Conversations between Aundrea (orange) and Quincy (white).

While this was going on, Zach was having the same conversation with Yvonne the result essentially being the same outcome. She suggested a Netflix night instead. “I’ll have them come over, it would give their mom a little quite time to start writing her book. I’ll have QJ over too.”

Zach began to ask about the book as well.

“You know once your aunt puts her mind to a project, she sticks to it. She was sort of indifferent about going initially, especially on such short notice, but it’s like once we got down to Louisiana, old memories began flooding back. Now it’s got her looking for other family. I’m actually thinking about talking about this for my next podcast”

She called Deja:

“Hey sis, what’s up?”
“Well besides lesson plans, the book you mean?”
“Hey how about I give you a break and have the kids over for snacks and movies? I’ll power up Netflix and let ‘em  fall asleep in front the TV”
“Works for me. Me and Quincy can go somewhere. Damn, we have a date night?! I’ll have the kids at your house within an hour!”
“Great, how’s the book?”
“Which one? The cookbook? Great! The other book? Not quite where I’d like to be at.”

Yvonne suggested beginning with an introduction of herself and what prompted her to write the book.

“You sound like the publisher.” Deja said

Yvonne responded “It’s true, plus….you could always ask mama”

She ended the conversation abruptly. “Hey I got some snacks in the oven, I’ll call you later?”

Deciding to take a break from writing, Deja asked her husband if he’d like to go out.

Quincy happily agreed as it was rare that they got to have a date night. After finishing dinner, they decided to order a fudge brownie for dessert.

“Bae, we need to do this more often, the kids are way, how often do we get the night to ourselves”

Quincy suggested that they just go walk the beach.  “I’ll just go pay the bill and use the restroom real quick”

After a momentary pause, Quincy suggested heading home. “We’ve got the house to ourselves, so you know what that means?”

“Another baby” Deja jokingly said
“Are you crazy?!” Quincy exclaimed

Deja reminded him “I’m on the pill so we’re good”

At Yvonne’s house, the kids were watching a thriller/suspense film as they had spent most of their night doing. After the film went off and Yvonne went to bed, the kids switched off Netflix for some old stand up comedy films. “How about some comedy” Zach suggested.

“Kevin Hart” Malachi suggested?

“Hell no!” Zach said, “we’re watching some oldies. A little Def Comedy Jam, a little Richard Pryor? You know the stuff that your parent’s don’t typically let you watch. Y’all gonna learn a lot in the 6th grade and who want’s to have these conversations w/ their mom?”

After watching a couple of hours they feel asleep. Phil got up for a cup of water and turned the TV off, noticing what was on TV, he couldn’t help but laugh. He went back to bed afterwards.

Concurrently, Deja and Quincy were in bed, talking about the date.

“Now that you are home we should do this more often, maybe go see a movie next weekend. I need you to stop worrying so much”

“And you need to stop working so hard, I don’t want you to feel that you need two jobs for me”
“Honey, I’m doing this book for me, granted, I hope it sells but I enjoy writing anyway. I’m gonna get some shut eye, that drink did me in. Goodnight”

“Goodnight”

They both shut their lamps off and went to bed. Falling asleep shortly afterwards.

TO BE CONTINUED WITH EPISODE 10.
